The History of Miele Vacuum Cleaners
You cannot understand where Miele vacuums are made, if you do not know their history. Let’s look at it briefly. To start with, Miele is an Italian name for “honey”. But, that is not all. Actually, the cleaners got their brand name from their originator Carl Miele. The founder established the manufacturing company back in 1899 in Germany as a family business. However, they did not manufacture vacuums until 1927, when they released their first cleaner.

Are all Miele Vacuums made in Germany?
Miele vacuum cleaners are made at their Bielefeld factory in Germany, the second oldest and second largest factory of the Miele group’s 11 production sites in Europe. Motors for the Miele product range are made and supplied from their factory 230km away in Euskirchen. Their other factories in Gütersloh, Germany and Brasov, Romania supply electronic modules and sensors and their factory in Warendorf, Germany supplies plastic components to Bielefeld. At this location, Miele also develops and manufactures dishwashers and washer-disinfectors for clinics, doctor's surgeries and laboratories. In all, Bielefeld manufactures about two million units per year. In addition, from this location Miele coordinates the production of additional series of vacuum cleaners at its only other production centre outside Europe, which is in Dongguan, China.

Currently Miele produces S190, S700 S4, and S5 series vacuum cleaners from their Dongguan facility. This includes, for example, the production of plastic components through in-house injection moulding as well as assembly. As with the Miele vacuums made in the Bielefeld factory, all motors used in the china-made models also come from their factory in Euskirchen, Germany. Approximately 450 employees manufacture about 600,000 vacuum cleaners per year at the Dongguan factory.
