Deebot vs Roomba

iRobot Roomba and Ecovacs Deebot are reliable robot vacuums brands for hassle-free house cleaning. They produce premium, mid-range and budget level robots suitable for a variety of household cleaning needs. This Deebot vs Roomba comparison will make finding the best model for you a breeze.

The two brands produce vacuum models that can remove pet hair and work optimally on different floors: hard floor, low-pile carpet, medium pile carpet, etc. They both produce machines that have a self-charging dock, high-efficiency filters, and home apps for cleaning scheduling with voice control enabled using Alexa or Google Assistant.

The main advantage Roomba has over Deebot is the auto-emptying feature which is incorporated in the i7+ model. However, when it comes to battery run time, Deebot machines outlasts the Roombas. In addition, Deebot also outsmarts Roomba by producing robot vacuums that combine both vacuuming and mopping in one single cleaning action.

iRobot Roomba i7+

iRobot Roomba i7+ (7550) Robot Vacuum with Automatic Dirt Disposal - Empties Itself for up to 60 Days, Wi-Fi Connected, Smart Mapping, Works with Alexa, Ideal for Pet Hair, Carpets, Hard Floors

iRobot Roomba i7+ is a self-emptying robot vacuum that works on multiple floors and can handle different types of dirt including pet hair and also removes allergens. It comes with a High-Efficiency Filter with AllergenLock bags which can trap 99 percent of pollen, mold, and dust mites. The dirtbag holds up to 60 days of dirt.

This is the most sophisticated, powerful and convenient Robot Vacuum there is. The maximum suction power of the Roomba i7+ is slightly better than the Deebot 550. Roomba advertise this as 10x the air power compared to the Roomba 600 Series AeroVac™ System.

The iRobot HOME app, Alexa or Google Assistant can be used to give voice commands and customize how the machine cleans your home.

Pros

  • Has Dual Multi-Surface Rubber Brushes that adjusts and flexes to stay in constant contact with carpets and hard floors, ensuring that it doesn't get tangled with pet hair.
  • Its powerlifting suction delivers 10X the air power for improved pickup performance.
  • Intelligently maps and cleans your entire home. The iAdapt 3.0 technology combined with its vSLAM navigation actively captures thousands of precise measurements to optimize coverage.
  • Keep off zone control gives you total control on choosing where you want your robot to clean and where it should keep off.
  • Has a low profile such that it can go under bed and furniture.
  • It can work without Wi-Fi if you don’t want to use the scheduling feature and Imprint Smart  Mapping.
  • It is relatively quiet.

Cons

  • It has to be combined with iRobot Braava jet m6 robot (using its Imprint Link Technology) to automatically clean in sequence (i.e vacuuming and then mopping). The Deebot 950 by comparison is a vacuum and mopping robot all in one.
  • You might have to clean the brushes more often because the long hairs wrap around the end of the brushes making large thick rings. If not removed, they can induce some mechanical stress on the machine.
  • It won't avoid pet waste so you have to be at home to operate it if you often have pet defecate or throw-up on your floors. So it doesn't splash pet waste around the house (however, the Deebot 950 2-in-1 will take care of this with its mop feature.
  • Unattended scheduled cleaning may not work unless the user and his or her smartphone connect to WiFi (not cellular) at the scheduled time.

Video Review

The Roomba i7+ is an expensive robot vacuum so it is worth completing your research before making your decision by watching this in-depth video review. Once you're fully informed you can then decide for yourself on whether you prefer the Roomba or the Deebot.

Ecovacs Deebot 950 2-in-1

ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO 950 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum Cleaner & Mop with Smart Navi 3.0 Technology, Up to 3 Hours of Runtime, Multi-Floor Mapping, 3 Levels of Suction Power, Hard Floors & Carpets, and Pet Hair

The Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 950 2-in-1 Robot combines vacuuming with mopping in one single machine.

It has a powerful suction of 24 CFm with three levels of suction power adjustment. The Smart Navi 3.0 ensures that your robot maps your home and reaches every nook and cranny when cleaning. It has adjustable cleaning modes with an app for advanced control systems such as setting virtual boundaries.

This Deebot has a long battery runtime of about 200 mins. As you can see from the specifications, the battery capacity of this Deebot is much higher than the Roomba i7+.

As you vacuum, the mopping system, OZMO™ ensures that your hard floors get thoroughly clean without leaving your floor wet. Its water tank and water level adjustment can be controlled through the app. It also has a feature that detects carpets automatically when cleaning your home.

The interactive app gives you the opportunity to generate a cleaning map for your home, schedule cleaning, voice reports and use voice control on Google  Assistant and Alexa to control your machine.

The Multi-Floor Mapping feature of the vacuum makes it possible for the machine to remember its last position on each floor.

PROS

  • Can vacuum and mop at the same time (though it recommends that vacuum mode should be put on the lowest setting while mopping).
  • Works well at picking up pet hair and dirt - independent tests shows the Deebot outperformed the Roomba.
  • Longer battery runtime and battery capacity compared to the Roomba.
  • Without Wifi, the robot can remember the mapping on the subsequent runs.
  • It has washable mopping pad.
  • HEPA  filtration meaning this robot vacuum is suitable for asthma and allegy sufferers.
  • Suitable for both hard floors and carpets.
  • It can be used without wifi and the app. All you have to do is press a button on top of the unit twice and then it starts to clean. However, you won't be able to use control it on your phone or use additional features on the map.
  • There is no need to disassemble the wheels for cleaning and maintaining: a tool is included to remove clogged hairs and other dirt easily.
  • You don't need magnetic strips to set boundaries, there are advanced control tools in the app to design "stay out" zones for the robot.
  • For homes with multiple floors, the charging station can be moved to another floor and the machine will remember the positions of the station on different floors.
  • The Robot has a low profile and high mobility. It covers almost every edge and corner of your floors.
  • It has good sensors to avoid falling down from stairs.

CONS

  • Adding a cleaning solution into the water tank can cause the machine to malfunction. So only water can be used in the reservoir.
  • It does not auto empty.
  • App might be incompatible with some devices, especially some versions of android.
  • Might sometimes miss its navigation e.g missing rooms or its charging dock.
  • When using the mop function, the machine may not traverse an area with low pile carpet. It needs a hard surface to traverse to the next area.
  • You are also requested to take the pad off and empty the water after mopping.

Video Review

To properly compare the Deebot 950 vs the Roomba i7+ you should check out the official video from Ecovacs below.

Which one should you choose?

The Deebot 950 slightly outperformed Roomba i7+ in tests for removal of sand from floors. An independent test at CNET shows that Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo 950 2-in-1 picked up 88% of sand on hardwood, 26% on low-pile carpet and 38% medium pile carpet whereas IRobot Roomba i7+ picks to 87% on hardwood, 20% on low-pile carpet, and 31% on medium-pile carpet.

If the auto-emptying feature is important to you or you have a challenge with allergies then you can choose Roomba i7+.

If you need the mopping feature, choose Deebot 950 because you will need to spend about $400 more to purchase the combined version of Roomba i7+ and M5 to do vacuuming and mopping.

iRobot Roomba 960

No products found.

The Roomba 960 strength lies in mapping home layout and navigation and ability to pick up a lot of debris, dirt and pet hair without getting tangled with hair. It uses Power-Lifting Suction to deliver 5X the air power for improved pick-up performance.

The 3-stage cleaning technology utilizes the main brush under the body and side brushes tilted at an angle to pick up dirt and debris in corners and edges. The side brushes flick dirt on the path of the main brush where the motor will power suction.

Pros

  • In terms of battery power, Roomba 960 typically lasts for 75 minutes. However, the machine is able to navigate itself back to its charging dock when it detects low battery and is able to resume cleaning where it stopped.
  • Has a “Spot" button that tells the machine to spot cleans a certain area in the house.
  • Its stronger suction power is engaged when the carpet boost mode is activated on hard to clean spots.
  • iRobot Roomba 960 uses the iAdapt navigation technology, the leading and most advanced mapping system in the market. It is equipped with sophisticated iAdapt 2.0 which is also known as Smart Mapping & VSLAM. With the aid of a camera, the robot intelligently maps out your home and creates a blueprint you can save via the iRobot app. It uses this map to systematically execute cleaning in the most efficient and time-saving manner.
  • App features include Start or pause cleaning, cleaning schedule, customization of cleaning, Status monitoring, Reports of cleaning metrics, Live notification.
  • It senses stairs and doesn't fall over the edge.

Cons

  • It does not self-empty. The dust bin might have to be emptied two or three times before the Roomba is done cleaning the entire house.
  • It does an amazing job on hardwood floors and area rug but leaves some clumps of pet hair behind on carpeted floor. A Roomba 980 might clean carpet floors better.
  • Can sometimes bump into furniture.
  • The robot might not be able to complete its vacuuming job on its own without requiring some assistance. Its success rate in performing all its specified functions is average.

Ecovacs Deebot 661

ECOVACS DEEBOT 661 Cordless Robot Vacuum, Black

Deebot 661 is a convertible vacuuming and mopping robot!

Unlike the Deebot 950 which combines both actions, the 661 has an interchangeable dustbin for vacuuming and water tank for mopping so you can swap them as needed.

Perfect mopping is achieved as the Smart Motion Mopping Navigation systematically navigates on hard floors.

It has protective features that include anti-drop & anti-collision sensors, durable protective bumpers, anti-scratch finish, durable protective bumpers, and large wheel for climbing thresholds.

The Max mode power feature makes it possible to increase suction power by up to 2X for troublesome areas.

  • It is able to pick up pet hair.
  • Long battery life.

  • It can be operated via mobile app, Alexa or remote control

  • It doesn't have any control to prevent it from going over carpet when mopping and it might get stuck because of the wet pad velcroed to the bottom of the device.
  • It doesn't come with barrier strips and doesn’t have the automated featureIt might 'get confused' when it bumps into something.
  • Mopping is not as effective as vacuuming.
  • Doesn't allow any kind of cleaner in the water tank, only water.
  • Cannot maneuver its way around obstacles on the floor. You have to pick them up first.
  • It can sometimes shut off while vacuuming.
  • It might not find its way to its dock.
  • May not be effective for people with big house with an open floor. It might not finish the job before dying and will start back from scratch when it recharges.
