Hoover
The Hoover brand is synonymous with vacuum cleaners, particularly in the UK and Ireland where Hoover dominated the vacuum industry in the early and mid-20th century.
The history of Hoover is intertwined with the invention of the first portable electric vacuum cleaner by James Spangler in June 1908 in Canton, Ohio.
William Henry Hoover bought the patent for the design from Spangler, founding the company that in 1922 was renamed the "Hoover Company".
The Hoover Company in the US is now owned by Techtronic Industries after their former owner Whirlpool Corporation sold the vacuum brand in 2006.
Techtronic Industries are headquartered in Hong Kong and also own Oreck, Dirt Devil and Vax.
The UK/ European division of Hoover split from Hoover US in 1993 and was bought by the Candy Group, a large family owned domestic appliance manufacturer based in Italy.
Hoover vacuums feature highly in many of our Home Vacuum Zone Reviews. Some of our best reviews pitch Hoover versus Dyson, Hoover vs Shark and also Hoover vs Bissell vacuums.
Shark

Tineco's cordless vacuums, especially the "Pure One" series, have garnered attention for their smart features, powerful performance, and sleek design.

Their vacuums also come equipped with a digital display that provides real-time performance updates and maintenance reminders.
Tineco's commitment to innovation is evident in their product lineup, which ranges from the budget-friendly A10 series to the advanced Pure One models.
Their vacuums are not just about power; they emphasize user experience with features like easy-to-empty dustbins, long battery life, and app integration for enhanced functionality.
While Tineco might not have the long history of some of the other brands on this list, they're quickly establishing themselves as a brand to watch in the vacuum industry. Their combination of tech, performance, and user-centric design makes them a worthy contender in the world of vacuum cleaners.
We've featured Tineco vacuums in our comparison articles:
American Vacuum Brands
Buying an American made vacuum is a preference for many Americans. There are numerous reasons for this:
1. To support the American economy. By buying locally manufactured vacuums you are supporting the manufacturing industries and the US economy and employment rate as a result.
2. Greater trust in vacuum cleaner quality. America has high standards of product safety and quality that are well regulated and tested.

US residents may have a higher confidence in American vacuum brands because of this familiarity in comparison to a vacuum from overseas built to unknown foreign standards.
We have listed in this section our top 10 American made vacuum brands. It should be noted that some of these brands do manufacture some of their vacuum models outside of the US.
Kirby

The Kirby Company are a division of The Scott Fetzer Company, which in turn is part of Berkshire Hathaway.
Kirby have been manufacturing vacuum cleaners in Cleveland, Ohio since the early 1900’s. They expanded their manufacturing facilities with the opening of a second plant in Andrews, Texas in 1972.
Kirby produce all their home care vacuum systems from these two American factories. They are then sold onto authorized, independent distributors for retail sale in the US and the rest of the world.
Every Kirby is provided with a 3 year limited manufacturer's warranty. However in order to qualify you must purchase this brand of vacuum from an authorized Distributor, Distributor Trainee or Dealer through an in-home demonstration.
Buyers should be aware that Kirby vacuums purchased via the internet or at a retail store are not covered by their manufactures warranty. Online or store retailers may offer their own warranty and you may also be able to get a significant discount via this route so this needs to be considered against the warranty issues.
The latest Kirby home cleaning system is the Kirby Avalir 2.
Kirby boast that the Avalir system offers 12 separate machines in one easy-to-operate system and is more than just a vacuum cleaner. It is also made of robust materials and is built to last a lifetime.
This is however reflected in the price - the Kirby Avalir 2 is one of the most expensive vacuum cleaners that you can buy. This American vacuum is also one of the only brands to receive the CRI Energy Efficient Gold Level certification.
For further information, check out our Kirby Vacuum Reviews, where we cover the Avalir 2 in detail. We also recently pitched the Kirby versus the Dyson Ball Animal II to compare these two very different vacuum cleaners.
